Scaling (non-surgical periodontal therapy or deep cleaning) is a procedure to remove dental plaque and calculus (tartar) from tooth surface and then smoothing, or planning, of the (exposed) surfaces of the roots to eliminate plaque, calculus along with the microorganisms harbored in them which reduces inflammation and prevents remission of periodontal disease.
